The rubber tree is native to the Malay Archipelago. It is a robust evergreen tree. Its erect stem is provided with permanent leaves of shiny dark green color. New leaves appear covered with a deep red colour and its fruits are spherical, 1 cm in diameter and with a smooth, greenish, dotted surface.
The latex of the tree is used to make chewing gum, although this sap is very irritating to the eyes and skin.
