A striking trunk, thick at the base and irregular in shape

The Ombú tree is native to Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Peru and does not usually exceed 10 m in height. Their spectacular trunks are thick at the base and irregularly shaped. In adult plants, the base of the trunk and the beginning of the roots expand dramatically.

The flowers are inconspicuous and are arranged in spikes. The fruit of the Ombú tree is fleshy, toxic and greenish, sometimes used as a colorant.
