The olive green primate

It is distributed in large areas of sub-Saharan Africa in both savannah and forest zones. The grivet differs from other species in that they prefer open areas to forests and are very adept at traveling on the ground.

The grivet adapts to almost any habitat, tropical forest, savanna... This primate is sometimes called the “Green tota”, because of the green hue of the hairs on the upper part of its face. This color is actually due to the mixture of black and yellow hairs.

They are very social animals, groups are formed by males and females of up to 20 individuals where males usually outnumber females. Social groups function within a social hierarchy. Males migrate to neighboring groups when sexual maturity is reached, while females remain in the groups in which they were born. The female gives birth to a single offspring after 2-3 months of gestation.

Their main threats are habitat destruction and hunting.
